Position Overview
You’ve built an impressive repertoire of successful large-scale projects and hold extensive telecommunication engineering expertise, with a focus on leadership, innovation and operational excellence. You utilize effective collaboration to engage key stakeholders at every stage and ensure project execution delivers on business objectives. With everything you bring to the table, you’ll excel as our Senior Engineer, Telecommunications.
In this role, you’ll provide strategic and tactical engineering guidance, develop system standards, supervise junior team members, and offer professional services for major telecommunication and radio network projects and operations support activities for critical infrastructure at FortisBC.
In year 1, you will:
- Familiarize yourself with FortisBC Inc. (FI) engineering standards and Major Projects processes.
- Establish solid technical leadership with the engineering and technical teams and prepare everyone for the successful implementation of current and future projects.
- Foster trusting and effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
In year 2, you will:
- Work to develop long term strategies for telecommunication systems within the organization.
- Develop project scopes and estimates for both long- and short-term telecommunication and radio network projects.
- Apply knowledge and experience to support SCADA, AMI, P&C, and other operational systems.
What it takes:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with specialization in Telecommunications from a recognized program, with a minimum of 8 years’ industry experience, preferably within a unionized environment.
- Eligibility for professional membership with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working collaboratively with a team of engineers and professionals to deliver desirable results to our stakeholders in a high-paced and demanding environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering and design techniques for Operational Technology and related equipment in the utility industry.
- Demonstrated experience applying industry standards relating to telecommunications and radio systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operations and maintenance of Operational Technology in the utility industry.
