Position Overview

Reporting to the Operational Technology Support Supervisor this position is responsible for day-to-day planning, estimating, design, commissioning, and technical and construction support for Operational Technology (OT).  With a primary focus on FortisBC’s Electric division and secondary support within the Gas division. This position supports Electric SCADA, Operations, PMO, Asset Management and any other related groups and stakeholders.  Operational Technology includes telecommunications, data networking (circuit switched and packet switched), radio (microwave, fixed and voice), SCADA, and Advanced Metering (AMI).

Responsibilities

  • Manages project controls for OT projects including budgeting, scheduling, forecasting and risk analysis, including providing engineering review and sign-off for OT projects.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for operations technology, supporting maintenance and repair activities to ensure seamless and efficient operations
  • Participates in engineering investigations to troubleshoot, evaluate and provide proactive recommendations for implementing solutions or strategies to resolve operational issues and increase efficiency
  • Prepares and presents training sessions to technicians, technologists, trades people, contractors, trainers and administrators
  • Supports and facilitates Site Lease Contracts, Tenant lease contracts and Crown land leases for FortisBC or third party owned sites
  • Establishes, collaborates with, and maintains professional relationships with key partners, including vendors, government agencies, professional associations, standards organizations, and internal and external customers
  • Maintains current knowledge on new developments in technology, safety, quality, and regulations by attending conferences, seminars, and reviewing technical papers, in order to respond to technological advances and new regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognized program, plus 4-7 years’ experience.
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
  • Specialization in or demonstrable experience with Operational Technologies is strongly desired.
  • Strong analytical skills 
  • Solid interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering and design techniques for Operational Technology and related equipment in the utility industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations and maintenance of Operational Technology in the utility industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles and methodology
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality and document control standards
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Access
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget concept and principles and economic analysis
