Position Overview
An enthusiastic co-op student is required to assist the Technical Solutions Manager for the Energy Solutions department. This Co-op opportunity is intended for students enrolled as undergraduates at a recognized accredited institution, and the successful candidate will:
- Gain experience within FortisBC’s Energy Solutions team working in the areas of building codes and energy standards.
- Work on assignment and projects to provide opportunities for engagement with various levels of staff:
- Invoice processing and budget tracking
- Project deliverable, and milestone tracking
- follow up tracking with internal and external parties
- procuring and refining technical data, including in Excel format
- Managing document flow and storage
- Scheduling tasks for multiple parties within FortisBC
- GHG Reduction Building Portfolio Master Plan program – coordination
- Codes and Standards research program – coordination
- Internal Communication of results – coordination
- Develop an understanding of the workings within the department and FortisBC.
- Gain experience in effective team and partner collaborations.
- Serving as the coordinator between FortisBC, building codes, energy related standards committees, and consulting firms
- Collaborating with other departments to incorporate FortisBC data into the set
Responsibilities
Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values and leadership competencies, reporting to the Technical Solutions Manager, some of the duties of this position involve:
- Assisting with research
- Reviewing documentation and provide feedback and ideas
- Familiarize and track internal and external resources on related projects and activities;
- Work collaboratively with various groups in the organization including Integrated Resource Planning, and Conservation and Energy Management
The ideal candidate will have strong communications, planning and organizational skills. They will possess the ability to quickly learn processes, to identify and organize relevant information and be able to work independently. The position will be located at the corporate office in Surrey.
Requirements
Minimum 3rd or 4th year student, enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering, Energy, Environment/Sustainability or a related program with intent to return to school after the co-op work term. Must currently be enrolled in a co-op program at an accredited post-secondary institution.
Other Qualifications
- Creative thinker with strong skills in the use of energy and GHG analysis, financial evaluation methods, and project management;
- Ability to communicate effectively and to maintain collaborative relationships;
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- Strong presentation skills;
- Proficient in MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, and strong written, verbal and presentation skills;
- Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving - capable of complex reasoning analysis;
- Interpersonal skills – able to collaborate on projects, maintain effective relationships, and communicate clearly;
- Independent - ability to work well under limited supervision
