Position Overview

You are a subject matter expert, specializing within integrity and risk management procedures about transmission gas lines. On top of your high-level technical expertise and engineering background, you have an analytical and data-driven mindset that allows you to develop successful solutions. All these qualities make you a great candidate for our Specialist Engineer, System Integrity.  

 

The successful candidate will bring strategic leadership and deep technical expertise to oversee our In-Line Inspection (ILI) program. They will be instrumental in designing innovative initiatives and pinpointing critical asset and engineering risks that warrant further investigation, particularly those involving complex or specialized challenges. This role offers the opportunity to shape the program’s direction and make impactful decisions on sophisticated technical applications.

In this role, you will:

  • Be a leading member of the in-line inspection team, coordinating and prioritizing integrity analyses as new pipeline condition data becomes available through in-line inspections and integrity digs.
  • Perform specialist-level analysis of in-line inspection data and associated digs.
  • Interpret and analyze risk assessment results to guide technical direction.
  • Foster collaboration among cross-functional groups to ensure progress aligns with our strategic vision
  • Familiarize yourself with FortisBC processes and leverage your technical leadership skills to implement and advance the Company’s integrity management program vision and priorities.
  • Identify and lead the continual improvement of specific technical processes and practices.
  • Maintain and enhance your technical knowledge and skills for standards, regulations, integrity management technologies, and industry practices by participating in industry committees and relevant training.
  • Act as specialist expert advisor and industry expert to management to influence technical requirements and technical direction at FortisBC.
  • Support mentorship opportunities amongst the System Integrity team.
  • Explore emerging technologies to recommend innovative solutions and opportunities to improve our work practices.

What it takes:

  • A Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee Engineer designation in Engineers and Geoscientists BC or the ability to become registered within three to six months.
  • 12 years of progressive technical experience in a related field.
  • Specialist level technical experience with integrity and risk management of transmission gas lines.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing the utilities industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods and techniques of effective technical and management report preparation and presentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices of researching engineering issues and evaluating alternatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to create innovative engineering solutions for utility systems.
