As our Senior Project Engineer, you’ll focus on preparing engineering assessments, feasibility studies, completing detailed design and field engineering activities for Sustainment and Growth Capital projects in the company. You’ll work with and oversee a team of engineers, technologists and external consultants on a wide variety of projects, including gas transmission and distribution pipeline design, fitness for service and other technical assessments. You will also be relied upon as a technical expert in the group supporting junior and intermediate engineers as well as other internal business units such as Operations, System Capacity and Integrity.
In year 1, you will:
• Maintain compliance with current industry regulations, codes, standards and guidelines.
• Build a solid understanding of FortisBC’s internal processes, standards, policies and procedures.
• Apply your expertise and knowledge to projects.
• Develop strong working relationships within the Engineering team and key stakeholders.
In year 2, you will:
• Develop leadership skills within the department and help improve the performance of the team.
• Identify and champion continuous improvements in the service provided to other key stakeholders.
• Be accountable and improve the performance and timelines of the fast-paced work environment for ongoing projects.
• Act as Subject Matter Lead on several internal design standards and provide support to other internal business units to implement required changes due to industry standard and technology advancements.
• Provide ongoing support to other internal business groups such as LNG Engineering and Major Projects to provide oversight and review of third-party designs to ensure they meet internal standards.
• Provide oversight and technical support to consultants which support the Engineering Services Group on ongoing Sustainment and Capital Growth projects.
What it takes:
• A firm knowledge and understanding of CSA Z662 and the CSA Z245.xx Code series
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities
• Engineering capacity related to natural gas pipeline design.
• Advanced knowledge of computer systems and specialized software (stress analysis using Caesar II or equivalent will be an asset)
• Demonstrated experience in natural gas design and high level technical knowledge base
• Experience with cost estimating and engineering scope development will be an asset
