Position Overview
You have deep expertise in natural gas station engineering and a proven ability to lead complex projects from concept to completion. With a focus on technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation, you work effectively with internal teams and external partners to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. With everything you bring to the table, you’ll thrive as our Senior Project Engineer, Stations.
In this role, you’ll act as the subject matter expert for station design and sustainment projects, providing strategic and tactical engineering guidance, overseeing design processes, and offering technical leadership to project teams. You’ll also supervise external engineering resources and contribute to capital projects and operations support for FortisBC’s critical infrastructure.
In year 1, you will:
- Maintain compliance with current industry regulations, codes, standards and guidelines.
- Build a solid understanding of FortisBC’s internal processes, standards, policies and procedures.
- Apply your expertise and knowledge to projects.
- Develop strong working relationships within the Engineering team and key stakeholders.
In year 2, you will:
- Develop leadership skills within the department and help improve the performance of the team.
- Identify and champion continuous improvements in the service provided to other key stakeholders.
- Be accountable and improve the performance and timelines of the fast pace work environment for ongoing projects.
- Act as Subject Matter Lead on several internal design standards and provide support to other internal business units to implement required changes due to industry standard and technology advancements.
- Provide ongoing support to other internal business groups such as LNG Engineering and Major Projects to provide oversight and review of third party designs to ensure they meet internal standards.
- Provide oversight and technical support to consultants which support the Engineering Services Group on ongoing Sustainment and Capital Growth projects.
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineering from an accredited post-secondary academic institution with 8-15 years of recent and related experience;
- Knowledge of natural gas pipeline system and stations design and construction practices;
- Certified or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities..
- Engineering capacity related to natural gas stations design.
- Advanced knowledge of computer systems and specialized software.
- Demonstrated experience in natural gas design and high level technical knowledge base
