Position Overview

You’ve built an impressive repertoire of successful large-scale projects and hold extensive pipeline engineering expertise, with a focus on leadership, innovation and operational excellence. You utilize effective collaboration to engage key stakeholders at every stage and ensure project execution delivers on business objectives. With everything you bring to the table, you’ll excel as our Senior Pipeline Engineer.

In this role, you’ll provide strategic and tactical engineering guidance, design process oversight, supervise junior team members and external engineering resources, and offer professional services for major pipeline capital projects and operations support activities for critical infrastructure at FortisBC.

In year 1, you will:

  • Familiarize yourself with FortisBC Energy Inc. (FEI) engineering standards, Transmission Operations and Major Projects processes.
  • Develop a fundamental understanding of FEI transmission pressure and intermediate pressure pipeline operational and maintenance requirements and how our pipeline engineering practices can affect these requirements.
  • Establish solid technical leadership with the engineering teams and prepare everyone for the successful implementation of current and future projects.
  • Foster trusting and effective working relationships with key stakeholders.

In year 2, you will:

  • Lead and implement improvements to operational readiness, FEI engineering standards and Major Projects work processes relevant to this role.
  • Present new and original technical solutions, influence stakeholder buy-ins, and see through to successful implementation to deliver additional values by projects.
  • Become a technical expert in pipeline engineering to support Transmission Operations, represent them in Major Projects and consult Operations on key matters when required.
  • Participate in industry committees, conferences, seminars, and workshops and promote the implementation of the latest best practices in pipeline engineering to FEI’s Major Projects.

What it takes:

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical or civil engineering and 12 years of experience in a related field, including more than four years of specialized experience in pipeline system design.
  • Eligibility for professional membership with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is required.
  • Transmission pipeline operational experience, global pipeline construction experience and pipeline consulting experience for gas transmission companies and utilities are considered valuable assets.
  • Exceptional creative thinking skills and a proactive approach for devising practical and economical solutions to technical problems with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills with the ability to provide clear focus and directions to engineering teams for the successful implementation of major pipeline capital projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working collaboratively with a team of engineers and professionals to deliver desirable results to our stakeholders in a high-paced and demanding environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of pipeline constructability, including a thorough understanding of the engineering analysis and implementation of innovative solutions to address construction challenges and long-term operational risk associated with installing pipelines through technical terrains and hazards.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
