Senior Engineer, Integrity - Risk Assessment

Position Overview

You’re a technically-savvy individual who possesses a thorough understanding of integrity and risk management of transmission pipelines. On top of your technical expertise and engineering background, you have an analytical and data-driven mindset that allows you to develop successful solutions. All these qualities make you a great candidate for our Senior Engineer, Integrity position.  


In this role, you’ll provide leadership and expertise to the development and implementation of the quantitative risk assessment (QRA) processes for our transmission pipelines. You’ll also review and improve associated data workflows and processes to ensure quality risk results. As a member of FEI’s broadly focused integrity team, you may contribute to other priority areas including in-line inspection data analysis.

In year 1, you will:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the goals and objectives of FEI’s Pipeline Integrity Management Program and ensure risk assessment activities align with our strategic vision for quantitative risk assessments of transmission pipelines.   
  • Become familiar with the FEI Pipeline Systems and their operations.  
  • Use quantitative risk assessment software (C-FER PIRAMID) to produce risk assessment results.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather or develop high-quality data sets used as inputs to the QRA so risk assessment results are meaningful and useful in promoting informed decision making by the company.  
  • Analyze data inputs and influence the continual improvement of data workflows.

In year 2, you will:

  • Continue to develop the in-house QRA processes to a stage where comprehensive cost-benefit analysis for risk management and risk mitigation can be completed.   
  • Complete system-wide implementation of the QRA processes.  
  • Work with subject matter experts within and outside the company to identify and lead the general continual improvement of our QRA processes and practices.
  • Continue to develop and enhance your technical knowledge and skills on risk assessment of pipeline systems and general pipeline integrity management, including the understanding of how emerging energy solutions such as hydrogen blending and renewable natural gas will impact pipeline integrity management and the risk assessment of our pipelines.   
  • Enable the company to stay at the forefront of industry best practices on risk assessment by participating in industry seminars, workshops, conferences, and/or committees when opportunities are available.   

What it takes:

  • A Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee Engineer designation from Engineers and Geoscientists BC or the ability to become registered within three to six months. 
  • Eight to 12 years of engineering experience.
  • Relevant technical experience with integrity and risk management of transmission pipelines.
  • Proficient with utilizing computer software to organize and process large amount and multiple sets of data.  
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills required to lead or aid a multi-disciplinary team to effectively achieving common goals.   
  • Exceptional knowledge regarding transmission pipeline risk assessments, including data inputs and methods/models.
