Senior Engineer, Integrity - In-Line Inspection

Position Overview

You’re a technically-savvy individual who possesses a thorough understanding of integrity management of transmission pipelines. On top of your technical expertise and engineering background, you have an analytical and data-driven mindset that allows you to develop successful solutions. All these qualities make you a great candidate for our Senior Engineer, Integrity position.  


In this role, you’ll provide leadership and expertise to support our in-line inspection (ILI) activities, including program expansion to include previously uninspected transmission pipelines. As a member of FEI’s broadly focused integrity team, you may contribute to other priority areas including risk assessments of transmission pipelines and incorporating ILI and dig analyses to support quality risk results.

In year 1, you will:

  • Become familiar with the FEI Pipeline Systems and their operations.  
  • Perform engineering analyses of in-line inspection data (including data from Geometry, Inertial Mapping, MFL-A, MFL-C and EMAT tools)and associated dig results.
  • Be introduced to and support the risk assessment processes, including contributions to data inputs. 
  • Develop a strong understanding on how FEI utilize our ILI program and integrity excavation program to monitor and manage common integrity hazards on gas transmission pipelines, including external corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, pipe deformation, manufacturing, fabrication & construction (MFC) defects, and geohazard. 

In year 2, you will:

  • Identify and lead the continual improvement of specific technical processes and practices.
  • Work towards opportunities to specialize in the integrity management of one of the pipeline integrity hazards (including but not limited to Metal Loss, Dents, Cracking, and Pipeline’s interaction with Geohazard).   
  • Continue to develop and enhance your technical knowledge and skills on pipeline integrity management, including the understanding of how emerging energy solutions such as hydrogen blending and renewable natural gas will impact pipeline integrity management of our pipelines. 
  • Enable the company to stay at the forefront of industry best practices on integrity management by participating in industry seminars, workshops, conferences, and/or committees when opportunities are available.   

What it takes:

  • A Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee Engineer designation from Engineers and Geoscientists BC or the ability to become registered within three to six months. 
  • Eight to 12 years of engineering  experience.
  • Relevant technical experience with integrity management of transmission pipelines.
  • Experience with supporting quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of pipeline systems is an asset. 
  • Exceptional knowledge regarding pipeline integrity assessments, including data inputs and analysis methods/models.
