Position Overview

Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values and leadership competencies, reporting to the Program Manager, Climate Action Partners  this position is responsible to support the implementation and uptake of FortisBC’s climate action initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Program Manager, Climate Action Partners and other team members to develop strategic priorities for climate action outreach and engagement. Advise senior management on strategic issues related to stakeholder engagement and make recommendations for action accordingly.
  • Work with a network of individuals that are responsible for driving implementation and uptake of FortisBC’s climate action initiatives. Oversee program reporting; manage existing and new contracts; identify and manage opportunities to educate on and promote FortisBC’s initiatives in low carbon and renewable energy solutions.
  • Promote awareness and energy literacy among key stakeholders and communities about B.C.’s energy policy and energy economy, FortisBC’s climate action initiatives, and FortisBC’s role as an energy solutions provider.
  • Positively influence energy policy at a municipal level in various community energy plans across the province through B.C.’s provincial climate leadership plan and, at a federal level, through Canada’s Pan-Canadian Framework on Climate Change. Liaise with government staff, elected officials, business associations and non-governmental organizations to align interests and enable the effective execution of FortisBC’s corporate strategy and energy policy priorities.
  • Contribute to energy policy development that results in rate base and revenue growth, productivity improvements and risk mitigation related to climate action policy. Develop related analyses and business cases, legislation and regulatory filings.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders throughout the company to advance FortisBC’s energy and climate action priorities; conduct market research and analysis; prepare reports and studies; maintain awareness of policy and activities that challenge execution of FortisBC’s corporate objectives; deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support relevant regulatory processes by assisting preparation and submission of regulatory applications and responding to Information Requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Studies, Political Science, Public Affairs, Business Administration or Engineering plus a minimum of two  years related experience in energy industry, preferably in the development of public policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically
  • Strong skills in the use of business analysis, financial evaluation methods, and project management
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and executive work on time and on budget
  • Knowledge of utility infrastructure design and capacity planning 
  • Knowledge of utility regulatory principles and energy markets
  • Knowledge of asset management and reliability methods
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong presentation skills
