Position Overview
Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values and leadership competencies, reporting
to the Senior Project Manager, this position is responsible to provide project management services to enable the
safe and successful execution of capital projects from conception to completion.

As Project Manager, you will foster and coordinate external and internal project teams and skills to ensure project
requirements are met utilizing project management fundamentals of scope, budget, schedule, and risk
management. You will have opportunities to learn and improve project management and business skills while
meeting deadlines to achieve project objectives.
In this role, you will:
- Learn PMO Tools used to monitor and control overall project development and execution
- Develop project budgets and monitor to ensure project financial control
- Develop project schedules and monitor to deliver projects on time
- Understand and manage project scope and monitor influences to successful outcomes
- Understand risk management principles and application to assigned projects
- Ability to manage many projects at the same time
- Challenge the status quo and look for better ways to improve business processes
- Identify and communicate any changes to your partners including unforeseen changes to the project
- Co-ordinate and assign resources to achieve project requirements
In year 1, you will:
- Build a solid understanding of the Company’s internal processes, standards, policies, and procedures
- Put your expertise and knowledge to work on projects
- Champion and promote the importance of safety
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders
- Schedule and organize resources appropriately
- Learn Fortis PM tools and standards
In year 2, you will:
- Build on your knowledge gained during a project cycle
- Identify and champion continuous improvements in how the Project Management Office does business
- Foster effective teams
- Continue to build and leverage relationships with all stakeholders
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline from a recognized program plus 4-7 years’ project management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation desired – willingness and ability to obtain designation required.
- Knowledge of project management principles and methodology
- Knowledge of contract negotiation, management and resource planning
- Knowledge of business metrics in the achievement of business goals
- Knowledge of BCUC regulatory mandate and processes
- Knowledge of natural gas transmission and distribution utility systems
- Knowledge of Oil & Gas Commission (OGC) or similar technical regulator’s mandate and processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead others within a non-union and/or a unionized environment
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and review project management plans, budgets and schedules
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and related costs
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute work on time and on budget
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and demanding work schedules
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability with financial understanding and practices
- Demonstrated computer/MS Office/MS Project proficiency
