Position Overview

You’re technical by nature and thrive on using your analytical and problem-solving skills to achieve any task. Not only are you knowledgeable about natural gas transmission, distribution, and station engineering and general engineering principles, you’re a well-rounded individual with effective communications skills who works well with others, making you a great fit in the role of a Project Engineer.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading and participating in mechanical analysis and design reviews on assigned capital projects, including the development and review of natural gas transmission, distribution and station-related standards. You’ll also provide project engineering oversight and own the responsibility for engineering schedules and quality assurance on the assigned mechanical portion of capital projects.

In year 1, you will:

  • Familiarize yourself with FortisBC’s standards, guidelines and practices.
  • Visit the field frequently to gain a strong understanding of our Project Managing Office and Operations tasks and duties.
  • Completing design activities for new stations and related infrastructure in FortisBC’s transmission and distribution natural gas system.
  • Develop an understanding of the Issue for Construction (IFC) process from estimation to design completion, construction, and develop Record Drawings (RD).

In year 2, you will:

  • Handle all key responsibilities independently with minimal support from the senior engineer.
  • Oversee engineering contractor tasks as an internal design lead for Transmission, Distribution and Stations groups.
  • Continue to partner and work with stakeholders to complete tasks on time.

What it takes:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering from an accredited university plus eight to ten years engineering experience.
  • Registration of a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC or immediate eligibility.
  • A strong knowledge of transmission, distribution, and station engineering and general engineering principles, design and construction methods.
  • An effective communicator with an ability to adapt quickly and problem solve.
  • A curious learner with exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
