As our Program Manager, Climate Action Partners, you will lead and drive partnership opportunities to make progress toward B.C.’s climate action goals. You will regularly work with FortisBC’s program leads to identify innovative projects that support our business groups, including energy solutions, renewable gas, conservation and energy management, and natural gas for transportation.
In this role, you will:
- Supervise and lead a network of individuals that are responsible for driving implementation and uptake of FortisBC’s climate action initiatives
- Manage existing partnerships and develop new contracts
- Manage program administration including planning, budgeting and reporting
- Lead training and engagement activities, including training sessions, program updates and peer learning activities
- Use your superior collaborating skills to develop strategic priorities for climate action outreach and engagement while recommending the appropriate action
- Build genuine partnerships and influence decision making that aligns with community, provincial and federal climate plans
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to advance our energy and climate priorities
- Support relevant regulatory processes by preparing and submitting regulatory applications and responding to information requests
In year 1, you will:
- Develop a solid understanding of the practical implications of energy and climate policy at the local, provincial and federal levels of government
- Develop positive relationships with our current Climate Action Partners network while identifying and developing new partnerships
- Build effective working relationships with colleagues across departments at FortisBC
- Develop a working knowledge of existing and innovative energy technologies that support FortisBC’s climate action initiatives
In year 2, you will:
- Maintain positive relationships with existing partners while developing and managing new ones
- Educate stakeholders on the challenges and opportunities of energy decarbonization in B.C.
- Educate stakeholders on FortisBC’s role in B.C.’s energy economy
- Promote balanced energy discussions on the future of energy for local governments and in B.C. more broadly
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Studies, Political Science, Public Affairs, Business Administration or Engineering plus 4 to 7 years related experience in energy industry, preferably in the development of public policy.
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute timelines to stay within budget
- Natural ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to review and execute tasks in a strategic manner
- Knowledge of utility regulatory principles and local/regional energy markets
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Exceptional communication skills both verbally and in writing
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to exercise professional judgement in the handling of confidential information
- Ability to work effectively on your own and in a team environment
- Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite)
Additional Information
- Light travel throughout the province may be required
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
