Position Overview

As our next Operations Supervisor, Gas Control, you’ll play a meaningful role in supporting a team that keeps our natural gas system running safely and reliably 24/7.

 

In this leadership role, you’ll cultivate a supportive, collaborative environment where every team member feels valued and empowered. Responsibilities

  • Supervises and provides leadership to a team of skilled resources to meet daily demands related to the daily operations of Gas Control. Ensure a consistent approach to responding to issues and emergencies and adherence to industry standards, procedures and regulations.
  • Leads in the organization of Gas Control response activities related to a variety of emergency events that impact Company’s service delivery and/or business functions. Facilitates meetings and/or de-briefing sessions after response activities are executed. Documents and implement changes and improvements that result.
  • Plans system configurations to meet operational and gas nomination requirements and directs Gas Controllers to carry out those plans on a daily basis.
  • Reviews/changes/documents SCADA set points; publish and disseminate changes to appropriate parties.
  • Performs daily alarm audits, investigate and follow up on unaddressed and shelved alarms.
  • Monitors changes to Regulations, Codes and Standards and provide advice to others on related impacts. Researches and reviews best practices to maintain continuous improvement of the Control Room environment and recommend improvements.
  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels; monitors staff work assignments to optimize resources, allocate, prioritize and distribute work to meet operational demands and service level commitments.
  • Participates in selecting, orientating and training new employees. Provides coaching to support performance, quality of work, and ongoing training and development of staff; manages attendance, identifies performance issues and collaborates with others regarding disciplinary matters.
  • Manages, leads and continuously improves training program meeting Control Room Competency Management Program requirements. This includes:
    • Monitoring and assessing staff competency, along with completing assessments and audits
    • Managing training schedule for staff
    • Maintaining all training documentation and records
  • Works closely as primary contact with Operations, Gas Supply and external interconnecting pipeline organizations for coordination of communications and operations, gas supply nomination, transportation requirements, and determination of future requirements. Represent Gas Control in emergency response exercises.
  • Support Gas Control project implementations, process reviews and changes; support corporate-level gas system large capital project developments.
  • Performs and leads other Control Room Management tasks such as:
    • Creating and leading tabletop exercises specific to Gas Control
    • Managing and maintaining alarm system to meet established targets
    • Maintaining and improving Control Room Management initiatives meeting regulatory requirements
    • Keeping up to date with industry standards regarding Control Room Management best practices ensuring regulations are met
  • Maintains a safe and healthy workplace for staff to meet health, safety and emergency requirements.
  • Maintain adherence to safe work procedures and practice.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Diploma of Technology in a related discipline from a recognized program plus 7 – 10 years of directly related experience in a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of educational, training and experience.
