Position Overview
To reach our vision, FortisBC is looking for Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Business Partner (BP) to join our OH&S Department. If you are passionate about OH&S, and you go out of your way to ensure the well-being of those around you. You have substantial relevant experience and understand how to build effective partnerships to work towards common goals. You would be a great fit for this position.
In this role, you will be responsible for working closely with our internal and external stakeholders in an OH&S advisory capacity ensuring FortisBC’s OH&S program complies with the business needs and the regulatory requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Developing an understanding of our business structure, organizational values, work culture and the OH&S management system.
- Building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, communicate effectively, and support the safety culture. For example, lead and/or participate in various OH&S forums.
- Providing subject matter expertise on OH&S management ensuring compliance to the applicable procedures, standards, and/or regulations.
- Collaborating with diverse teams to support the OH&S management program and initiatives. For example, identification of hazards, risks, control measures; improving the OH&S management system; support investigations and corrective action resolution; field inspection/audit; writing safe work procedure; contractor safety management; participating in tool-box/safety meeting and where needed, leading the training.
- Provide guidance and clarification on the application of multiple-employer workplace interactions, specifically for the roles of employer, owner, and prime contractor working relationships in accordance with the WorkSafeBC occupational health & safety regulation/guidelines.
- Represent as required, on Joint Health and Safety Committees to support established goals and objectives.
- Represent FortisBC OH&S during internal and external interactions (e.g., WorkSafeBC visit, Audits etc.).
- Support change management strategies to enable the effective implementation of organization and technological change and related projects and initiatives; support leadership development and employee engagement to facilitate understanding and acceptance of change.
- Compile, analyze review, and/or interpret statistical data related to OH&S.
- Participate in OH&S/contractor safety summits, events and meetings to further relationship building and engagement opportunities.
What it takes:
- A bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or related discipline from a recognized accredited program, plus four to seven years of recent, related experience in the occupational health and safety field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Previous experience in the Oil & Gas (or similar) operations, occupational health & safety, process safety and project/contractor safety management are preferred.
- Relevant OH&S certification (e.g., CRSP, CRST etc.) or the ability to obtain one.
- Knowledge and experience of the provincial (WorkSafeBC) and federal regulations.
- Working knowledge of incident investigation methodology and practices (e.g. Cause Mapping, Tap Root, etc.).
- Ability to travel frequently for work and a valid B.C. driver’s license.
- Key soft skills (e.g., result oriented, attention to detail, multi-tasking, adaptive learner, empathy, effective communication, team collaboration).
- Technology skills (e.g., MS Office, safety software and mobile applications etc.)
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
