Position Overview

Help shape the future of energy in British Columbia. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of FortisBC’s clean growth strategy, leading the development of new Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) supply opportunities. This is a high impact position for a strategic thinker who thrives at the intersection of sustainability, commercial innovation, and stakeholder collaboration.

As a trusted leader and deal maker, you’ll work closely with developers, governments, Indigenous partners, and internal teams to bring complex RNG projects from concept to reality. You’ll structure and negotiate sophisticated agreements, guide regulatory approvals, and build long term partnerships that deliver environmental and commercial value. Along the way, you’ll mentor account managers, influence executive decision making, and represent FortisBC as an industry leader in renewable gas development.

If you’re motivated by purpose, energized by complex challenges, and eager to make a measurable difference in how energy is produced and delivered, this role offers the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the business, on communities, and on the energy transition itself.

In this role, you will:

  • Drive growth by identifying and securing high-value Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) projects and RNG purchase agreements through strategic engagement.
  • Provide end-to-end leadership for in-province project development from concept through implementation. Coordinate financial and technical feasibility analysis, lead contract negotiation, lead regulatory approval process, and manage RNG accounts.
  • Develop business cases and project plans to justify and advance proposed projects from idea phase through to implementation.
  • Develop innovative commercial ideas and concepts that require new commercial and contractual frameworks and implement appropriate executive and regulatory approval strategies to support project development and investment opportunities.
  • Lead regulatory application process for all new RNG supply agreements. Play a key role as a subject matter expert in strategic regulatory applications related to the RNG program by developing submissions, preparing supporting documentation, and providing responses to intervener requests to ensure successful approvals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with regulatory, gas supply, finance, legal, and operations teams to integrate new RNG supply projects and contracts seamlessly into existing business systems.
  • Manage commercial relationships with suppliers, including amending agreements, billing resolution, compliance reporting and coordination of site visits.
  • Lead and coordinate internal, cross-functional teams and engage with external stakeholders to resolve interface issues with existing suppliers as needed.
  • Support all RNG initiatives across the organization including input to supply and demand optimization, multiple customer market segments and FortisBC sustainability in general.
  • Maintain market intelligence on emerging trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Represent FortisBC as an industry leader and expert in the area of RNG by engaging with government agencies, industry associations, and external stakeholders.

What it takes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce or engineering from an accredited university plus 7 to 10 years of leadership in negotiating complex agreements, relationship management and business development.
  • Expertise in developing and executing growth strategies, aligned with corporate objectives and regulatory frameworks.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of energy markets, commercial contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance and value optimization.
  • Ability to build and sustain strong relationships across all organizational levels and with external stakeholders, fostering collaboration and alignment on corporate priorities.
  • Advanced presentation and influencing capabilities and ability to deliver presentations to inform decisions at the executive level.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to interpret and integrate complex technical, commercial, and contractual information into actionable strategies.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive, and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
