Position Overview
Are you passionate about advancing Reconciliation and creating meaningful change? FortisBC is seeking a visionary Manager, Indigenous Initiatives and Socio-Economic Impact Program to lead transformative efforts that embed Indigenous engagement, inclusive economic participation, and social impact across our operations.
In this strategic leadership role, you’ll champion advancing FortisBC’s Statement of Indigenous Principles, guide the implementation of socio-economic impact initiatives, and collaborate across departments to shape frameworks that support Indigenous engagement and community partnerships. You’ll help shape the future of Reconciliation in the utility sector.

In this role, you will:
- Oversee the implementation and compliance of FortisBC’s Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) and Reconciliation strategies. Develop cross organizational plans to implement best practices. Develop and maintain cross-functional working groups to enable the implementation of these strategic initiatives.
- Build and implement strategic pillars for local business development, workforce development, and social impact programming. Play a key role in negotiating Indigenous and municipal framework agreements.
- Lead a team and cross organizational working groups with subject matter experts to design strategic frameworks, processes and standardized tools to effectively implement the Socio-Economic Impact (SEI) Program across major projects, sustainment and FortisBC operations.
- Advise senior leadership on strategic issues related to Reconciliation, stakeholder engagement and Indigenous supply chain strategies. Collaborate with business units to integrate Indigenous participation and procurement plans into project lifecycles and operations.
- Develop and manage budgets for SEI and community initiatives in collaboration with project and business leads. Lead the development and implementation of standardized metrics to measure socio-economic benefits and ensure alignment with corporate objectives. Manage socio-economic reporting across FortisBC’s projects and operations.
- Support media relations, emergency response planning, and act as a corporate spokesperson as required.
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications or other related discipline, from a recognized program, with 7 years of relevant experience in the field of Indigenous/community/public relations.
- Solid project management skills with ability to manage key initiatives and budgets.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous Peoples’ histories, cultures and engagement best practices.
- Proven experience executing effective stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with representatives from all levels of government.
- Capable of supporting the development of marketing strategies.
- Proven negotiation skills, experience negotiating complex agreements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Strong organizational skills – ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
