Maintenance Planning Engineer - Transmission

Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Maintenance Planning Engineer, Gas System Assets, the Maintenance Planning & Reliability Engineer leads a team of asset analysts and technicians who, in coordination with operations and maintenance, has accountability for the physical and financial performance of FortisBC assets. The scope of this position includes providing leadership and guidance to the team in establishing maintenance programs as well as planning and implementation of all maintenance activities.  In addition, the role includes definition and generation of KPI’s to measure and track both asset and maintenance performance.  

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the gas asset management O&M team in meeting the following objectives:
    • Develop, using RCM where appropriate, maintenance and spare parts strategies for new or existing gas system assets.
    • Up-date SAP asset records to reflect additions, replacements or changes.
    • Work with the operations and maintenance organization in the planning and implementation of maintenance activities for all aspect of gas system assets to ensure optimal physical and financial performance.
    • Analyze maintenance/failure data to optimize planned maintenance frequencies and implement improvements.
    • Review corrective work requests for appropriateness, conduct repair vs. replace analyses, and initiate engineering review where appropriate.
    • Collaborate with capital planning group to identify future capital expenditures identified through maintenance activities.
    • Develop metrics for maintenance performance, asset reliability and costs; communicate metrics and performance to stakeholders in operations.  
    • Collect feedback from operations stakeholders for improvements to maintenance plans and performance measures.
    • Prepare and present maintenance rationale for changes, enhancements and process redesign related to maintenance activities;
    • collect stakeholder feedback, ensure compliance to all codes and standards, demonstrate financial impact of changes.
    • Work in collaboration with operations and maintenance managers to prepare a 1-5 year look ahead maintenance plan and contribute in the preparation of annual budgets and resource plans.
    • Investigate equipment failures and use learnings to improve O&M programs specific to all gas system assets. 
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders including field operations, plant operations, Engineering and Finance.
    • Participate in industry forums to keep abreast of best practices and systems in Asset Management.
  • Work with the AMM management team and operations to establish optimal analyst/technician resource levels.
  • Liaise with operations to ensure operational needs are being met.
  • Oversee team administrative duties as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized program
  • 5-7 years’ relevant experience
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
  • Experience in plant maintenance and/or the gas utility industry is an asset.
  • Strong technical knowledge of gas transmission and distribution systems, regulatory requirements, and codes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and asset management principles.
  • Strong working skills using maintenance decision making tools such as RCMCostTM  is desirable.
  • Strong administrative, project and technical abilities with strong mechanical aptitude.
  • In-depth knowledge of field operations, facilities and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of SAP would be beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of software such as MS Office and MS-Project. 
  • Strong business, financial and negotiation skills. 
  • Competency in business and safety risk management.

  • Demonstrated presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
