We're actively seeking new talent to join our mission of transforming B.C.'s energy landscape. As one of BC's Top Employers with a diverse team of over 2,600 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Join us, and together, let's shape a brighter future for B.C.

Position Overview

You’re someone who can think critically in a collaborative environment and knows how to ask the right questions to move projects forward. You have an extensive knowledge base to act as a subject matter expert and provide advice on greenhouse gasses, emissions quantification, and carbon credit programs.

As the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting Manager, you’ll ensure our organization meets regulatory and non-regulatory compliance with GHG reporting requirements. With your sharp analytical mindset, you’ll lead the development of processes, methodologies, and improvements of systems to ensure appropriate reporting and management of greenhouse gas emissions throughout FortisBC.

As one of B.C.’s Top Employers, we’re looking for someone who brings an analytical mindset to bolster teams and projects forward. If this sounds like you, join us in transforming B.C.’s energy future.

In this role, you will:

  • Align your existing expertise to align with our business, in terms of GHG reporting as it relates to our operations and strategic vision.
  • Manage the development of tasks that feed into the decarbonization objectives of our company. This may include research, developing methodologies, and fieldwork.
  • Perform all functions required to ensure that our organization meets GHG reporting requirements including and not limited to collaborating with other departments, data management and analysis, supporting internal and external audits of all aspects of our work.
  • Evolve existing processes, procedures, and systems to improve our current practices and future-proof reporting activities by adapting them to ensure continuity and that we are compliant with current requirements.
  • Act as subject matter expert for all GHG and emissions-related topics and inquiries, particularly as it relates to emissions regulations, carbon credit programs, air quality and permitting.

What it takes:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental or chemical engineering, financial accounting, or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in GHG emissions management, air quality and permitting related to air quality, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, preferably in the context of the energy industry.
  • Eligibility for professional environmental certification or membership in the College of Applied Biology of BC, Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, or as a Chartered Professional Accountant.
  • Excellent professional and analytical judgment in assessing and handling confidential information and identifying opportunities to improve projects.
  • Incredible interpersonal and communications skills to build effective professional relationships with internal and external partners, relying upon resourcefulness to move emissions inventory work forward.
  • A proven track record of taking initiative in an environment that calls for resourcefulness to move decarbonization and emissions inventory work forward.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
