Position Overview
Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values and leadership competencies, reporting to the Events Manager, this position is responsible to provide leadership in the effective planning, coordination, provision and evaluation of corporate events to support marketing strategy, programs and the FortisBC brand at a variety of sponsorship, community and media events.
In this role, you will:
- Provide leadership in the effective planning, coordination, provision and evaluation of corporate events to support marketing strategy, programs and the FortisBC brand; collaborate with key stakeholder and cross functional teams to develop event requirements including communication plans, budgets and activities based on business needs. Participate in source funding activities and ensure cost efficiency for events; negotiate sponsorship agreements.
- Schedule and train staff to effectively represent FortisBC at a variety of community events including trade shows, sporting events, conferences, festivals and other celebrations, etc.; ensure staff deliver key messages for marketing campaigns based on corporate key pillars, distribute promotional materials and publications and meet company standards.
- Travel to events throughout BC; attend to customer inquiries, scheduling and staffing issues and other related problems. Maintain safety for staff; ensure staff are trained and aware of their responsibilities in the area of safety and environmental stewardship.
What it takes:
- Diploma in public relations, marketing or a related discipline from a recognized program and 3 years recent, related experience planning, coordinating and executing multiple events or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Strong knowledge and experience with event planning, implementing and executing multiple events.
- Strong initiative, organization and project management skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong intrapersonal skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels of the company as well as external stakeholders.
- Develop collaborative relationships and manage inquiries from public and key stakeholders in an educated and professional manner.
- Knowledge of the British Columbia energy industry along with experience in both the electric and gas side of the business is an asset.
- Computer experience including Microsoft Office suite (includes Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and SAP.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet timelines within demanding work schedules.
- Exercise judgment, tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.
- Ability to negotiate sponsorships.
- Ability to provide leadership.
- Ability to work as a team.
- Valid BC Class 5 Drivers Licence.
