We're actively seeking new talent to join our mission of transforming B.C.'s energy landscape. As one of BC's Top Employers with a diverse team of over 2,700 employees, we are committed to a safe and inclusive culture where each of us can connect, belong, and grow. Join us, and together, let's shape a brighter future for B.C.
Position Overview
You’re an experienced developer with a knack for and interest in automation. You always look for better ways, and if those ways involve robots and scripts, so much the better! Taking a complex manual task, breaking it down into its components and then making it all happen like magic is your bread and butter.
Joining our Information Systems department, you'll help maintain and enhance our existing automation processes. You’ll work on transformative business projects to help our internal customers optimize and automate their processes, and you will assist with other automation initiatives where they crop up. The tools of your trade will be UIPath Orchestrator, Redwood RunMyJobs, and a supporting variety of scripting languages and configuration management and DevOps tools.
While happy writing code, you don’t shy away from being business-facing, and you relish the ability to work directly with our partners and customers in the business to make everyone’s lives better. You've demonstrated time and time again that you're quick to take the initiative, and your dedication to getting the job done right means you're up for any challenge.
In this role, you will:
- Get trained and certified on UIPath, Ansible and Redwood RunMyJobs. If you don’t have those skills already, it’s ok! We’ll train you.
- Come up to speed on FortisBC’s technology landscape, learn system architectures and interfaces.
- Build relationships and trust with stakeholders in the business.
- Work on small development projects and well-defined sustainment work packages with the support of other developers and team members.
- Start to take responsibility for more significant development projects.
- Fully own level-2 sustainment support for automation systems.
- Provide strategic input for longer term improvements, begin acting as an automation champion with business units, and contribute to portfolio planning exercises for automation-based business transformation projects.
What it takes:
- A diploma or degree in a related field, such as Computer Science or Information Technology, plus at least five years of recent and related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Automation technology certifications (UIPath, Blue Prism, DevOps, Ansible etc) would be an asset, but are not required. We will provide training where necessary.
- Experience writing PowerShell scripts.
- Experience with version control systems, such as Git
- Scrum or other Agile related certifications would be an asset.
- A proven self-starter who is quick to take initiative.
- Effective problem-solving skills for aiding with minor fixes and managing more extensive upgrades.
- A demonstrated ability to use strategic thinking for big-picture program planning and a determined work ethic for detailed programming work.
- An ability to switch between technical and non-technical frames of mind when supporting partners and managing development requests.
What you need to know:
- Prior to the interview, Talent Acquisition will conduct a full employee general record review. This will include, but is not limited to: sick leave and attendance records, personnel file review and letters on file.
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
