Position Overview

You’re a sharp analytical thinker with a knack for leveraging utility planning optimization software tools. Along with your love for quantitative analysis, you’re a numbers guru who excels in forecasting and modelling analyses.

As an Energy Resource Planning Analyst, you’ll maintain and operate optimization models to support our Long Term Resource Plans (LTRPs) and other analyses. With your strong attention to detail, you’ll translate complex modelling results into concise insights and recommendations, such as memos, presentations, case studies, and appendices reports.
As one of B.C.’s Top Employers, we’re looking for someone who knows how to utilize their analytical mindset to lead projects to success. If this sounds like you, join us in transforming B.C.’s energy future.

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure the execution of strategies at the departmental and organizational level, both for analytical and regulatory submissions, that support business priorities.
  • Contribute to internal modelling analysis and support third-party external consultant work and their budget expectations and scope of works.
  • Analyze markets, energy utility planning environment, customer energy use, and provide useful qualitative and comparative insights.
  • Support workshops between our Gas and Electric utility resource planning analyses and reporting activities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external cross-functional stakeholders to use energy demand and other business data to support recommendations on planning and project strategies.

What it takes:

  • A degree in business administration, finance, economics, computer science, or a related resource development field.
  • A minimum of four years of related analytical experience.
  • A demonstrated ability to learn coding languages such as R, Python, or other.
  • Prior experience with optimization models, production cost analytics, and macroeconomic modeling through software such as Plexos, Aurora, Navius, or other energy modelling tools is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills to conduct accurate analyses and forecasts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills to develop and deliver presentations with succinct recommendations and supported strategic arguments.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
