Position Overview
Join our team and make a real impact as an Energy Management Advisor. You will lead the charge in shaping smarter energy use through innovative Demand Side Management programs. From reviewing cutting-edge energy studies to modeling building performance and guiding compliance with evolving codes, your expertise will help businesses save energy, reduce emissions, and embrace emerging technologies. Reporting to the Technical Solutions Manager, this position is responsible for reviewing energy studies through the company’s Demand Side Management (DSM) Programs to assess improvements in energy efficiency and conservation. It also entails assessing energy savings and emissions reduction potential of technologies and preparing compliance paths to meet new codes, standards or regulations.
In this role, you will:
Working with members of the Conservation and Energy Management (C&EM) Team, Energy Solutions Team, customers, program partners and others, this role’s key responsibilities will include the following:
- Reviewing energy studies and assessing energy savings potential for C&EM Commercial and Industrial energy conservation programs.
- Calculating potential energy savings and/or emissions reduction potential for various measures.
- Compiling results of assessments and formulating recommendations for improved energy efficiency, conservation and cost savings for customers.
- Communicating results with the Energy Solutions team and/or consultants.
- Preparing and presenting C&EM plans and reports to program partners, in compliance with engineering practices and regulatory guidelines.
- Conducting energy modelling and building simulation methodologies for energy use and/or emissions reduction.
- Conduct building energy consumption analysis and reviewing and validating Measurement & Verification studies.
- Participating in C&EM program evaluations and program improvement.
- Providing natural gas end-use applications advice to customers, contractors and vendors.
- Providing end-use gas equipment expertise to other FortisBC departments.
- Performing post installation site inspections as required.
- Monitoring and assessing changes to building codes, applicable by-laws and appliance standards.
- Support and provide advice to customers, contractors, vendors and others at FortisBC on the provision of natural gas end-use applications.
- Evaluate emerging trends in HVAC technologies, building envelope and energy systems.
- Model and prepare analysis on RNG and hydrogen.
- Provide guidance to other departments, customers and industry professionals on emerging technologies that benefit customers and the natural gas industry.
- Support and evaluate proposed changes in building codes, appliance by-laws and standards.
- Prepare analysis of the impact of changes to building codes and standards on customers and programs.
- Prepare energy modelling or compliance paths to meet new codes, standards or regulations.
What it takes:
- Degree in Engineering or Applied sciences or an equivalent Building Science Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in end-use application of natural gas, energy modeling, building design, and code compliance.
- Understanding of end-use natural gas applications, mechanical systems and HVAC equipment.
- Knowledge of building envelope design principles and practices.
- Knowledge of energy management techniques.
- Current knowledge of BC building codes and appliance regulations would be preferable.
- Understanding of end-use energy economics and market factors in BC.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication (written, oral, presentation) skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with high level of initiative, judgment and results orientation.
- Knowledge of building simulation methodologies and practices is desirable.
In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
