Distribution Operations Analyst

Responsibilities

Analyzes on-going processes and costs as they relate to the Operations within Distribution Operations.  When issues/concerns are identified, works with Operations Managers and other Distribution Operations staff to isolate the issue.  Once the issue/concern is isolated, recommends procedures and/or policy changes to correct the issue/concern.  Accesses privileged and confidential information as required to perform assigned duties.

 

Analyzes report requests, develops draft reports, co-ordinates/reviews requests with “end users” and recommends Distribution reporting requirements as they relate to administrative information, benchmarking, activity and unit cost targets in order to effectively manage Distribution Operations.  As required, analyzes results that are outside of target, provides a gap analysis and recommends solutions/processes to bring results back on track, including:

  • analyzes report requests for requirements using the SAP BW Query Designer to analyze information required vs. information available in the current information cubes;
  • develops “draft” BW reports using BW Query Designer and creating new “key figures” if required to create a new draft report based on the users requirements;
  • develops the “working” BW report using BW Web Application Designer and identifies the appropriate templates, once draft reports are accepted by the end user;
  • analyzes monthly reporting results by performing various analysis and reviews for reasonableness to ensure the accuracy/integrity of the reporting results supported with justification as required.  If necessary, identifies/communicates reporting issues/problems with the Business Intelligence Analyst to correct the reporting issues;
  • assembles and analyzes historical costs and activity data necessary to prepare activity and unit cost target projections for discussion and approval;
  • assembles and prepares benchmarking data for comparison to other utilities and targets within FortisBC, and when necessary provides a “gap” analysis;
  • researches, prepares “what if” scenarios, analyzes impact on products & sub-products and makes recommendations on various options/procedures to management; and,
  • assembles and analyzes administrative results for discussion and approval.

 

In association with the Operations Managers/Process Managers, prepares procedural/training documents to assist management in utilizing/interpreting the new Business Warehouse (BW) reports including the analysis of results, activities, and unit costs in order to explain and recommend remedial action.

 

Maintains a current knowledge of applicable operations, financial systems, BW reporting systems, policies/procedures, and coding requirements.  Advises the Operations Managers/Process Managers regarding applications of operational and financial procedures to aid in the understanding and effective use of reports and other activity related information.

 

Participates in the development of recommendations to enhance or establish policies, procedures, processes and other related issues.Prepares, sets up and reviews reports from both Distribution Operations and financial systems for accuracy and completeness as necessary.

Conducts research and special analyses related to Distribution Operations administration, activities, unit costs and programs, including:

  • preparing ad hoc reports for analysis and evaluation as required;
  • maintaining statistical databases and operational spreadsheets, summarizing information in appropriate presentation format; and,
  • preparing and presenting written, graphical and oral reports and presentations to facilitate the preparation and understanding of administrative, activity and unit costs/targets, including recommending courses of action as appropriate.

 

Participates in the development of operational and other management information systems, including:

  • providing user input regarding systems, information and reporting requirements;
  • testing modifications and/or enhancements; and,
  • conducting training sessions for the operational group as required.

 

Performs a variety of related support duties as appropriate to assist Distribution operational areas.

 

Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties, including driving a vehicle, which do not affect the rating of the job.

Requirements
  • A minimum of six (6) years’ experience in Distribution Operations or related field experience.
  • Completion of the Gas Distribution Course from the Gas Technology Institute (self-study).
  • Completion of third level of a recognized accounting program, such as CGA/CMA or equivalent.
  • Completion of the SAP Business Warehouse course 305 “Reporting and Analysis”.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills including the ability to organize and prepare a variety of reports, summaries and procedural documents.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills, initiative and flexibility to balance priorities and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of statistical analysis, cost-benefit analysis and related analytical techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer operating systems.  Advanced knowledge of financial (SAP), Order Fulfillment, SAP BW Reporting, cost accounting and other specialized software in use in the department.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision and direction.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid British Columbia driver’s license.
