Position Overview
You’re a detailed-oriented individual with exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills. You pride yourself on your ability to understand, improve and even create new processes that support any business objective. As an expert who understands essential Project Management Principles, your knowledge of industrial construction and project delivery allows you to effectively lead teams to build accurate cost estimates, making you an excellent candidate for our role as the Cost Estimating Engineer.
In this role, you’ll implement and coordinate cost estimating processes to support the development of projects in our Sustainment and Growth Capital portfolios.
In year 1, you will:
- Familiarize yourself with the inner workings, processes and systems within our departments.
- Establish and develop effective working relationships with peers and various business units.
- Support the Project Development Team in the writing and preparation of Scope and Estimate packages while managing tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
In year 2, you will:
- Establish internal processes to develop and maintain a cost estimating tool/database on historical project costs to support the further development and accuracy of future project cost estimates.
- Oversee the cost estimating portion of Estimate Package for capital sustainment and growth projects.
- Develop training materials for internal stakeholders on cost estimating practices and processes.
- Implement AACE guidelines into internal cost estimating processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
What it takes:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university plus four to seven years of cost estimating and/or project management experience, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset.
- A demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems, analyze information, and make sound judgements
- The ability to lead and interact harmoniously with a diverse internal and external stakeholder group.
- A solutions-oriented mindset with knowledge of cost estimating fundamentals and AACE guidelines
- A self-starter with a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and fast-paced work schedules.
