Responsibilities

 

  • Develop, implement, maintain and test Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Human Machine Interface (HMI) solutions. This includes development of SCADA displays (real-time data, historical trend screens, alarm banners and alarm summary windows, pop-up windows for set point entry and equipment control, data collection/logging, automatic report generation ), DB programming, writing of structured specifications, development of proper test plans, participation in walkthrough processes.
  • Analyze and respond to Gas Control problem reports and inquiries in a timely manner, recommending the appropriate course of action and/or system changes required to resolve them.
  • Assists in the development, modification and maintenance of software utilized by Gas Control, including current programming protocols and Web applications.
  • Develop and document standard guidelines, policies and work procedures for new applications. Provide training for end users and support staff in processes and procedures.
  • Analyze proposed computer applications (e.g. evaluation of SCADA software) and participates in special studies, improvements, enhancements, adaptation strategies and selection.
  • Act as liaison between Gas Control and field staff (e.g. Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programmers) to ensure field-SCADA integration.
  • Provide partial backfill for SCADA Technologist duties and responsibilities in supporting SCADA functionalities.
  • Undertake specific tasks or projects as assigned by the Manager (e.g. prepare Requests for Proposal, represent the team at meetings).
  • Plan and prioritize assigned tasks, completing them by the agreed upon completion dates.  Provide weekly status reports as to the completeness of all tasks.
  • Identify and recommend where technology can be used to facilitate the business unit’s strategic and tactical business plans. Maintains a high level of competency of current developments in current operating systems, applications, database types, and diagnostic tools by attending training, conferences, seminars and reviewing technical papers.
  • Perform duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which to not affect the evaluation of the job.
Requirements

 

  • Diploma in Computer Science, Systems Technology or equivalent and three (3) years directly related relevant experience.
  • Strong background in a Windows environment including MS Office. Intermediate computer literacy in Database Management, Operating Systems, Programming and familiarity with applications software in use in the Department for SCADA. Experience in SQL, proficiency with building custom applications in VB, .NET and .ASP. 
  • Basic knowledge in Field Instrumentation, Telemetry Protocols and Process Control/Automation.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to share knowledge and skills with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience in network security protocols preferred.
