Position Overview

Make a visible impact on public safety and reliable energy delivery.
 
Join our Transmission Operations team and help keep our high‑pressure gas pipeline system operating safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Support pipeline operations & maintenance: clean/paint above‑ground equipment, control vegetation, and repair/replace markers and signage.
  • Contribute to digs & upgrades: provide manual labour for excavations, replacements and system improvements; remove and reapply pipeline coatings.
  • Operate and care for equipment: drive and maintain mobile equipment; use pipe/cable locators; assist with valve actuator calibration; operate (and help maintain) high‑pressure drilling/stopping gear and, when required, hydraulic pipe benders.
  • Run pipeline tools (“pigs”): assist with launching, tracking and receiving cleaning/inspection tools and support pipeline blowdowns.
  • Patrol and monitor the system: conduct aerial, vehicle and foot patrols; support class location surveys; monitor third‑party work/crossings for permit compliance.
  • Be ready for the unexpected: assist with emergency response and participate in integrity programs and other assigned operational tasks.
  • Lead when needed: provide direction to coworkers or contractors on minor maintenance activities while following safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to proficiently operate & maintain all mobile equipment in Transmission operations work including but not limited to Backhoes, Excavators, truck mounted cranes, forklifts, side booms. 
  • Valid certificates for all applicable equipment in accordance with WorkSafe BC requirements. 
  • Class 1 drivers’ license with air endorsement is required. 
  • Demonstrated safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices on a sustained basis. 
  • Safe driving record and be able to pass Company driving tests if required. 
  • Mechanical aptitude, initiative and sense of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must reside within 45 minutes of the Nanaimo muster.

  • This role has standby and on-call requirements based on operational needs.
  • This role has extensive overtime requirements based on operational needs
  • This role has extensive travel/out of town requirements based on operational needs 
  • The successful candidate must adhere to the residency requirements of this position 
  • This position has a requirement to be clean-shaven as per WCB standards.
