Position Overview

Do you enjoy coordinating and leading multiple teams to take multiple projects from concept to completion? Are you a problem-solver with solid project management knowledge and experience?

 

As Project Manager, you will foster and coordinate external and internal project teams and skills to ensure project requirements are met utilizing project management fundamentals of scope, budget, schedule, and risk management. You will have opportunities to learn and improve project management and business skills while meeting deadlines to achieve project objectives.

 

Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values and leadership competencies, reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Transmission this position is responsible to provide project management services to enable the safe and successful execution of capital and maintenance projects from conception to completion.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide project management services to enable the safe and successful execution of a variety of assigned projects primarily related to natural gas pipeline integrity and/or capital sustainment programs including pipeline facility upgrades & alterations, geohazard mitigation, integrity digs, and in line inspection.  
  • Utilize project management expertise to develop, implement, and manage projects. Develop schedules, cost estimates, project execution plans, and risk management strategies. Support the Project Management Office reporting requirements by providing Quality, Schedule and Cost (QSC) reports,
  • Manage land acquisition, permit requirements, materials procurement, fabrication, site construction, contract administration, stakeholder communications, and customer satisfaction. Analyze costs and performance. Complete project closeout requirements.
  • Provide leadership to cross functional teams including engineers, technologists, drafters, external consultants and contractors to successfully deliver projects. Ensure successful execution of project components including agreed scope, schedule, cost and quality. Analyze and manage risks, establish contingency plans and negotiate changes to project specifications. Closely monitor and evaluate events to prevent scope and/or budget creep. Oversee related processes to ensure optimum efficiencies, ensure best practices regarding environment, and resolve issues related to project quality, risk and safety

What it takes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline from a recognized program plus 4-7 years’ project management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation desired – willingness and ability to obtain designation required.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and methodology
  • Knowledge of contract negotiation, management and resource planning
  • Knowledge of business metrics in the achievement of business goals

  • Knowledge of BCUC regulatory mandate and processes 
  • Knowledge of natural gas transmission systems 
  • Knowledge of British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER) or similar technical regulator’s mandate and processes 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others within a non-union and/or a unionized environment. 
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and negotiation skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and review project management plans, budgets and schedules. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and related costs. 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute work on time and on budget. 
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and demanding work schedules. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated computer/MS Office/MS Project proficiency.
