Position Overview

Your sharp analytical eye catches every detail, and your exceptional ability to keep organized never drops no matter the demand or number of competing priorities. Your crystal-clear communication skills allow you to best serve your clients and collaborate with external partners, and you know how to manage sensitive information appropriately. With your background in human resources processes and employee benefits, you may be the perfect fit for our Pension Specialist role.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the efficient administration of FortisBC’s multiple retirement savings arrangements, including defined benefit, defined contribution, and group savings plans, for both union and non-union employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain accurate pension data in our Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and third-party pension administration platforms, including regular data transfers for new hires, retirements, terminations, and annual updates.
  • Provide expert guidance to employees, managers, retirees, and former employees on a wide range of pension-related inquiries.
  • Support pension governance by building familiarity with quarterly pension committee meetings and gradually taking on a facilitation role.
  • Collaborate with external partners, including third-party pension administrators and group savings plan providers, to coordinate pension calculations and resolve issues.
  • Develop into a leadership role by independently administering one or more pension committees within a year.
  • Enhance pension reporting and payroll integration by contributing to system improvements, including requirement gathering and testing.
  • Create and maintain job aids to streamline employee workflows and improve user experience.
  • Troubleshoot issues directly with service providers to ensure timely and accurate resolution.

What it takes:

  • A post-secondary education in business administration, mathematics, finance, or a related field, with three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Interest in or working toward certifications such as the Pension Plan Administration Certificate (PPAC) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of administration practices and procedures for various types of pension plans, including defined benefit, defined contribution, ancillary and others.
  • Exceptional communications and decision-making skills to be tactful and discreet in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high-level proficiency in Excel for transferring data from one system to another
  • Incredible organization skills to meet priorities and work within demanding work schedules with the ability to adapt to changing environments and priorities.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
