Position Overview

You’re a safety-minded individual with a desire for all employees to thrive in a healthy and safe environment. Empathetic, understanding and trustworthy, you’re incredibly personable and bring a sense of calm in stressful situations. You treat every scenario with fairness and can find balance in all you do to ensure our employees and organization are on the same page.

In year 1, you will:

  • Develop an understanding of our business unit structure, organizational values, corporate safety programs and safety management system.
  • Identify and build relationships with key stakeholders from our company, including Operations and Shared Services, and support the advancement of our safety culture.
  • Guide our safety programs and initiatives by working closely with our Joint Health and Safety Committees, and engage with our Operations teams, including field visits with Operations management to understand their needs.

In year 2, you will:

  • Project manage programs and initiatives with cross-departmental groups.
  • Build upon your knowledge of our safety programs to provide subject matter expertise, review and update our safety programs and ensure continued compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Support other working groups related to health and safety programs to develop and launch initiatives based on your own experiences and knowledge.

What it takes:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental and occupational health and safety, or related discipline from a recognized accredited program, plus four to seven years of recent, related experience in the environment, occupational health and safety field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A valid B.C. driver’s license is required.
  • Formal qualifications in safety investigations and root cause analysis and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, or the ability to obtain one, would be an asset.

  • A motivated team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
  • A proven ability to multi-task and prioritize various projects at any given time.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
