Position Overview

Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values and leadership competencies, reporting to the Senior Engineer, Compliance this position is responsible to provide engineering oversight and technical support for System Operations and to ensure compliance with the BC Mandatory Reliability Standards. 

Responsibilities

  • Performs independent inspections of a limited and defined scope (e.g., number of variables, type of regulations, locations) to ensure compliance with BC Mandatory Reliability requirements affecting System Operations and/or Engineering, which includes making engineering recommendations for corrective actions, developing processes/documentation, maintaining compliance documentation, and assisting on broader scope inspections.
  • Gathers and performs in-depth analysis of data for all system outage events. Evaluates data/observations and prepares technical report of findings. Works with Engineering, Vegetation Management, and Operations to make engineering recommendations for corrective actions that will increase system reliability.  Track and follow-up on issued corrective actions to ensure that issues are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and approves risk assessments for system outages including providing and coordinating support to/from System Operations and Engineering for outage scheduling.
  • Provides other technical direction and support related to System Operations and/or Engineering to the System Operators and Management including, but not limited to operational issues, outage coordination, project scope development, SCADA issues, water management, vegetation management, and protection schemes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, plus 4-7 years’ electrical utility experience in system operations, protection, generation, transmission, or distribution engineering.
  • Protection Engineering and/or System Operations Planning experience is an asset.
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with EGBC.

Technical Competencies:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Access.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • General understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering concepts.
  • Exceptional organizational skills; manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and troubleshoot
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies, and procedure. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical power systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills.
  • Ability to correlate, analyze data, and report on findings.
  • Ability to identify and quantify risks associated with system outages.
