Position Overview

You’re ready to take on the challenge of working on our AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) Project where you will be part of a team building a more reliable natural gas system for our more than one million customers across British Columbia. The Gas AMI Project represents one of the largest Major Projects in FortisBC’s history as we upgrade all our gas meters to implement automated technologies that will improve the safety, resiliency, sustainability, and reliability of our natural gas system.

 

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Supply Chain AMI, you’ll apply your knowledge of warehouse and inventory/supply chain management to meet the  needs and material demands for the AMI Project. You’ll put your  leadership skills to work by managing the shipping and coordination of the AMI materials and collaborating with the AMI Deployment Contractors to build genuine partnerships.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Implement cost-effective material storage and flow of goods strategies
  • Manage related information for customers from the point of origin to the point of consumption
  • Monitor, allocate, prioritize and distribute work to meet operational demands and service level commitments for the AMI project. 
  • Manage and oversee contracted services in accordance with established terms and conditions 
  • Manage shipment schedule for AMI materials shipping direct from suppliers to Deployment Contractors cross-docks and warehouses.
  • Supervise and provide oversight of sample shipments of regulators and meters from Deployment Contractors to FortisBC Meter Shop.
  • Manage material movements between FortisBC and Deployment Contractor warehouses.
  • Manage emergency material movements between FortisBC and/or Deployment Contractor warehouses
  • Manage unscheduled/ad-hoc changes in delivery locations for material deliveries to Deployment Contractors cross-docks and warehouses.
  • Supervise material movements and deliveries for Sonix IQs and Smart Points for FortisBC.
  • Coordinate warehouse quality and safety audits as required
  • Manage material recalls and shipments of non-conforming goods to required locations
  • Manage AMI material RMAs as required
  • Travel to worksites to provide quality oversight and maintain compliance with work and industry standards, applicable metrics, and operational requirements.
  • Utilize field experience and technical knowledge to solve work-related problems and/or collaborate and refer to others.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy workplace for staff to meet health, safety and emergency requirements.
  • Maintain adherence to safe work procedures and practices including site safe work planning; provide safety information and supplies, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Provide financial oversight including the management of costs associated with staff, facilities, vehicles, tools and equipment.
  • Review and approve invoices and third party contracts.
  • Investigate, resolve and report variances.

 

What it takes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or Diploma of Technology in a related discipline from a recognized program
  • Certified Member in the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC or a Professional equivalent
  • Plus 4 to 7 years related field experience in a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 
  • Knowledge of Warehouse and Inventory/Supply Chain Management, Competent with SAP MM.
  • Understand of Logistics and Transportation Management.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude, understanding of NSC and CVS.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing.
  • Ability to lead by example by putting safety first at all times.
  • A passion for building strong partnerships and a team player.

 

What you need to know:

  • Some travel throughout the FortisBC service territory may be required.

 

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
