Responsibilities

  • A Shop Mechanic 2 shall be required to fabricate and repair a range of tools, instruments and equipment used in gas distribution work including modifications, binning and outfitting of work vehicles to suit gas distribution applications. 
  • Shall direct the work of Shop Assistants when assisting him.
  • Shall use manual and power operated hand tools and machine tools such as grinder, drill press, hydraulic press, etc., including set-up of these machines. 
  • Shall carry out overhauls of all sizes of four and two cycle internal combustion engines, hydraulic motors and drives, hydraulic jacking and pumping equipment, air compressors, water pumps, pneumatic equipment, line stopper and hot tap and pressure control equipment, welding equipment, etc. 
  • After satisfactorily completing 12 months service in the position, shall be classified as Shop Mechanic 1. 

Requirements

  • Demonstrated safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices on a sustained basis; safe driving record and be able to pass company driving tests.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of theory and operation of tools and equipment relating to the distribution and transmission system.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out complete overhauls of gasoline motors, pumps, pneumatic tools, line stopper equipment and other tools used in the gas system.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret work orders, mechanical drawings, sketches and written instructions and record work done.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain a high level of quality performance.

Additional Information

  • Must have knowledge of the operation and maintenance of TD Williamson and Muller drillout and stopple work.
  • Basic MS Office knowledge an asset
  • SAP knowledge an asset
  • On feet most of day
  • Considerable bending and lifting
  • This role may have overtime requirements based on operational needs
