Position Overview

The assignment will provide opportunities for engagement with engineers, managers and others in different departments in the organization, and provide an understanding of some of the workings within the operating and engineering groups at FortisBC.

In this role, you will:

The work will consist of various related assignments to the design and operation of the gas system, such as:

  • Review of standard design practices for natural gas facilities and pipelines including updating materials specifications, guidelines and drawings
  • Perform multiple site visits to better understand the Transmission and Distribution gas system
  • Engage various internal and external stakeholders and team members in the review of technical information on new utility products and practices
  • Perform engineering assessments, identify opportunities and deficiencies, and complete written reports/proposals for existing and proposed infrastructure
  • Recommend process improvements and ensure compliance to company and industry codes and standards

What it takes:

  • Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Student - Third or Fourth year preferred
  • Enrolled in a Co-op Program
  • Experience or knowledge with CAD applications and competence in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with report and memo writing in a corporate environment
  • Experience with interpreting mechanical and P&ID drawings of piping systems
  • Competent public speaker
  • Valid BC driver’s license (or other provincial equivalent)

Additional Information

This is a full-time temporary student co-op opportunity with an 8 month term starting in May 2025.
