Application Support Analyst

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and respond to incidents, problem reports, and inquiries in a timely manner, recommending and taking the appropriate course of action and/or system changes required to resolve them.
  • Develop and maintain software applications by effectively developing, implementing, and testing solutions to meet business and system requirements.  This includes the writing of structured specifications, programming (as appropriate), development of proper test plans, deployment and post implementation activities.
  • Analyze proposed software solutions (e.g. software products and custom-built software) and requests for system changes to determine the scope, impact, and cost of implementation.
  • Act as liaison between end users and Information System groups (such as IS Operations, the Help Desk, Software Product Vendors, maintenance support providers and other services groups) in order to resolve application problems or ensure the smooth operation of all department and corporate software applications.
  • Monitor production systems (including application and server logs), identifying and resolving problems in order to prevent negative impacts for end users.
  • Notify the Manager of any potential problems that could lead to a reduction or delay of services to FortisBC clients or Business Units.
  • Develop and document standard guidelines, policies and work procedures that will support application maintenance and development.  This includes IS security, change management, and quality assurance procedures and guidelines, as well as the coordination of user training.
  • Undertake specific tasks or projects as assigned by the Manager (e.g. purchase requisitions, internal and external audit requests, input to Requests for Proposal, represent the team at meetings).
  • Plan and prioritize assigned tasks, completing them by the agreed upon completion dates. Provide weekly status reports as to the completeness of all tasks.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, testing, and implementation of application changes within all applicable environments such as design, development, quality assurance/test, training, production, and Disaster Recovery. Application changes may consist of bug fixes, software patching, maintenance releases, technical upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Participate in the management of small or medium-sized projects, such as hardware or software upgrades, including the development of business cases and project charters, and the evaluation of Requests for Proposal.
  • Identify and recommend potential improvements to software applications to better satisfy a business unit’s needs and the utilization of that software application..
  • Assists the Manager in the preparation of capital and annual operating budgets, and ongoing cost control analysis.
  • Perform duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which to not affect the evaluation of the job.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Information Systems,  and at least Three (3) years of directly related, recent and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated competence in managing small to medium-sized projects with multiple interfaces to other information systems and specialized functions.
  • Experience with SQL Server and/or Oracle databases.
  • Demonstrated programming/scripting ability with .NET. PowerShell, Javascript, and/or Java/web application development skillset.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to share knowledge and skills with others.
