Responsibilities
- Holds work leadership responsibility for Engineering Drafter 1, Engineering Drafter 2, and Engineering Drafter 3.
- May perform duties largely similar to those whose work s/he directs.
- May perform duties related to, but at a higher level than the work of the subordinates whom they direct.
- Provides leadership and coaching to the Engineering Drafter’s in order to develop and maintain strong customer service, project and time management skills and ensure even workflow and consistency of effort. This includes:
- allocating projects and various phases of work to different individuals within a general framework laid down by the manager;
- assisting in the development of staff to ensure a focus on customer service standards is established;
- ensuring problems and inefficiencies are recognized and resolved through discussion, feedback and follow-up;
- performing a quality control function with respect to Engineering Drafters, and;
- warning subordinates of unacceptable behaviour (quality and/or quantity of work) or conduct (observance of hours, appearance, etc.).
- Reviews projects assigned to Engineering Drafters including:
- reviewing projects to ensure standards and codes are being complied with and customer requirements are being met prior to field release;
- preparing coaching notes and feedback based on the projects reviewed;
- meeting Engineering Drafters to discuss results and provide recommendations.
- Implements and ensures compliance with approved work procedures.
- Contributes to the preparation of and delivers training sessions/workshops, as required.
- Produces and revises drafting standards .and acts as SME (Subject Matter Expert) on Corporate Standard Libraries relevant to Engineering drafting
- Prepares progress and performance reports of the group and provides monthly update to the manager Prepares and produces material and equipment specification notes.
- Operates a computer-assisted drafting (CAD) work station and assists in developing methods and standards to promote its efficient utilization, including:
- Interpreting broad management objectives for CAD utilization;
- Developing system procedures and standards;
- Implementing approved methods to achieve CAD system efficiency;
- Carrying out specific tests and procedures;
- Recommending priorities and schedules for system use;
- Evaluating and reporting on system capabilities.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job.
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized post-secondary technologist certificate program in an appropriate drafting program to the relevant Engineering discipline.
- Six (6) years directly related relevant work experience gained as an Engineering Drafter, with at least one (1) year being in a Drafter 3 role.
- Capable of providing leadership to junior drafters.
- Knowledge of computer systems operations, environment, and peripherals.
- Working knowledge of the use of CAD/CAM technology (knowledge of additional data processing and engineering software such as AUTOCAD, MicroStation, FME and Spatial Direct).
- Knowledge of systems operations and construction and maintenance processes and procedures.
- Courteous, professional manner in dealing with internal and external contacts.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure during peak workload situations.
- Analytical and decision-making skills, including the ability to interpret data from a variety of sources.
- Oral, written, and presentation skills.
- Valid British Columbia Driver’s license.
