Position Overview

You’re an audit leader with exceptional project management skills and attention-to-detail. Calm and collected regardless of the situation, you’re a multi-tasker who can meet the tightest deadlines without breaking a sweat. You pride yourself on your ability to collaborate with and engage various stakeholders. Your proven ability to manage a Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance audit program makes you a perfect candidate for the Compliance Audit Manager position.

 

In this leadership role, you’ll manage the annual SOX testing program for FortisBC in support of Fortis Inc’s SOX attestation. You’ll assemble, manage and oversee a team of internal auditors (internal and external resources as required on an annual basis) in the completion of business process, IT general controls and entity level control testing to assess compliance with SOX and established corporate policies.

In year 1, you will:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of our Gas and Electric business processes while building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the day to day progress of the annual SOX audit program with guidance from Manager.
  • Maintain current quality of the SOX audit program.
  • Provide oversight of the CPA candidate in FortisBC’s Preapproved CPA training office program.

In year 2, you will:

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Independently manage the SOX program and all reporting requirements
  • Support the Internal Audit team to continuously improve on the effectiveness of SOX program
  • Supervise audit staff responsible for performing other compliance audits within the larger Internal Audit team.

What it takes:

  • Certified Professional Accountant designation (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor designation (CIA) from a recognized institution with a minimum five (5) years post designation plus five to seven (5-7) years of recent related experience in a large organization.
  • Minimum three (3) years of direct supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics developed by the Institute of Internal Auditors. 
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in implementing, and ongoing auditing of, Sarbanes-Oxley Act Section 302 and Section 404. 
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS) in Canada and US GAAP or IFRS. 
  • Strong knowledge of the COSO framework for the review of financial reporting, operational efficiency, and compliance, as well as the COBIT framework for Information Technology General Controls. 
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, power and natural gas utilities is an asset.
  • Proven leadership skills complemented by exceptional communication and analytical abilities.
