As our Occupational Health and Safety Business Partner overseeing our Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) division, you’ll be responsible for engaging our employees in safety conversations. You’ll do this by putting yourself in their shoes to understand their work and the safety precautions to maintain their well-being. Working in collaboration with internal and external teams, you will look for better ways to enhance our organizational performance through safety. Times are changing, and just because we’ve done certain things for a long time doesn’t mean it can’t change for the better.

In this role, you will:

  • Support two LNG plants, including overseeing contractors on-site during maintenance and shutdowns.
  • Be visibly present in the workplace and support base job activities such as event investigations, hazard identification and risk assessment, job hazard analysis, conducting on-site visits with field employees to understand the work and to provide support.
  • Support our Joint Health & Safety Committees, and take ownership of projects/initiatives assigned to you. You’ll work with stakeholders and support implementation and sustainment efforts.

In year 1, you will:

  • Develop a good understanding of the corporate culture, develop business relationships with our key stakeholders.
  • Learn and understand the Safety Management System and identify internal resources (subject matter experts) that are available to you to support you in your role.

In year 2, you will:

  • Take on projects that require multiple stakeholders input.
  • Be assigned as a subject matter lead in areas identified with your manager and proactively manage and sustain those programs in support of the safety management system.

What it takes:

  • A strong work ethic.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work with short deadlines.
  • Natural ability to step out of your comfort zone to take on something new.
  • Being knowledgeable in safety regulation.
  • Ability to research a subject/problem, making an informed decision, and being able to articulate that decision with confidence to your team and affected stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of employment and provincial (WorkSafeBC) and federal legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge of safety investigation methodology and practices (e.g. Cause Mapping, Tap Root, etc.).
  • Computer skills (MS Office Suite, HRIS).

What you need to know:

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete pre-employment verification, including, but not limited to, reference checks, copies of education and a record of a recent driver’s abstract from the last 5 years will be required.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life-long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
