Position Overview

 

Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values, and leadership competencies, reporting to the Operations Manager - Generation, this position is a front line supervisor with a workforce reporting directly to this position. Providing leadership to the major maintenance crew to meet the daily demands related to system operations, capital construction projects, maintenance & repair and emergency response procedures.  
 

Responsibilities

 

  • Ensures the appropriate staffing levels and provides leadership and direction to the workforce that is assigned to support Generation operations; Sets goals and objectives and determines priorities to meet operational demands and service level commitments; Participates in recruitment activities; ensures resources are fully trained and competent in their roles to align work and resources for optimal scheduling and delivery. Collaborates with Human Resources and Labour Relations on employee related issues.
  • Responsible for all aspects of safety on the job, including incident investigations, SPRs, safe work planning and crew audits.
  • Ensure optimum efficiencies in the areas of planning, organizing of the plant equipment, materials, documents and tools. Develops plant/project budgets and assists the Operations Manager in meeting budgetary commitments through accurate job estimates, labour/materials charges and resource scheduling.  Follow company policies and practices, apply applicable codes and standards, in all aspects of project/construction work at Generation sites.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for the business unit, responding promptly to ensure efficiency and minimal interruption to Generation operations; establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders. Communicates and coordinates with other departments, contractors and other work groups as required to coordinate the performance of work. Be accessible to act as a resource for on-call employee in emergency and unit outage situations.
     

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, Diploma of Technology in a related discipline from a recognized program &/or Red Seal Trade Certification (mechanical or electrical), plus 4 to 7 years related field experience in a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

 

Technical Competencies:

 

  • Utility &  project/construction management experience in Generation
  • Ability to work in high stress environment; manage high volume of projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent teambuilding skills; ability to create a positive work environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of labour relations; experience managing a unionized workforce
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical control components, mechanical control components and generation power systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance, operations, construction and repair processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices, policies and procedures, WSBC regulations and safety standards
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Basic knowledge in budget preparation and execution
  • Ability to troubleshoot
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills required
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal & written
