Technician 1 - Corrosion Control

Position Overview

 

  • Travels to various local and remote locations utilizing company vehicles to monitor and test cathodic protection systems in accordance with established maintenance programs and involving exposure to hazardous working conditions such as alternating current voltages, hot meter sets, driving in all weather conditions and heavy lifting, etc.
  • Compares and analyses cathodic protection measurements against specified criteria to identify and record areas where a criteria is not met in accordance with Canadian Standards Association  Z662, OCC1 (Canadian Gas Association: Corrosion Control guidelines), Corrosion Control Industry Practices, National Association of Corrosion Engineers and FortisBC Gas Standards.
  • Utilizes specialize equipment to test and troubleshoot locations and causes of system failures and identifies solutions on underground shorts, anode failures, rectifier failures, etc. Contacts others to discuss and obtain instructions for resolution as required.
  • Utilizes software applications to prepare spreadsheets, reports, graphs, etc. to document and analyze findings.  Sends/receives e-mails.
  • Initiates repair procedures by preparing instructions on work orders for review and approval by a senior level Corrosion Control department member; monitors the completion of repair within established timeframes.
  • Acts as a representative of FortisBC in responding to customer queries when on premises; explains work requirements in accordance with established procedures.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with established safety rules and regulations and participates in workplace safety initiatives as required.
  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties, which do not affect the rating of the job.

Requirements

 

  • Certified Cathodic Protection Tester (CP1) by Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Eighteen months (18) months directly related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to operate Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision and within a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse information and make sound judgments
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Valid BC Drivers License including a safe driving record
