In this role, you will:

 

Your wisdom in claims management is unending, and you keep cool, calm and collected when processing and resolving insurance claims. You effectively tap into your wealth of knowledge of the insurance industry and possess a drive for growth and development, leading you to continually innovate upon procedures with best practices and technology. We need someone just like you to be our Claims Manager. 

 

Joining our Insurance department, and reporting to the Insurance Manager, you’ll be responsible for the overall management and resolution of insurance claims for our FortisBC group of companies.

Your interpersonal skills enable you to foster strong and trusting working relationships by collaborating with others and implementing various perspectives in your approach.

In year 1, you will:

 

  • Gain a solid understanding of our current open insurance claims, insurance policy coverage and ensure limitation period requirements are met.
  • Develop solid working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including operations and legal departments, our corporate risk management group, external counsel, adjusters, brokerage firms, claimants and contractors.
  • Demonstrate progress in closing outstanding claims by developing key performance indicators and related reporting to management.

In year 2, you will:

 

  • Collaborate with our Insurance Manager to identify and pursue opportunities to improve claims document management and reporting by leveraging technology and report automation.
  • Improve our claims resolution success by identifying opportunities to enhance operational risk management processes and insurance policy limitations, inclusions and exclusions.
  • Continue to demonstrate progress in closing insurance claims expeditiously and efficiently.
     

What it takes:

 

  • A diploma or degree in business administration or a related discipline, plus seven years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 
  • A Chartered Insurance Professional designation is required, while a certification in risk management or licensing as a broker, agent or adjuster is considered an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of contract language, claim processes and legal requirements of contracts across various contract types.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for addressing claims and developing partnerships with internal and external colleagues. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills for managing claims files and balancing multiple ongoing processes within deadlines.
  • Proven collaboration skills for working with stakeholders to understand their needs and resolve insurance claims jointly.
